TRUCKS AT SPEED - ON THE ROAD - AT - COVENTRY MOTOFEST

Last weekend, 1st 2nd June TEAM OLIVER RACING attended the Coventry MotoFest, to participate in the road sprint race and to support the activities of two team sponsors, Giti and Power Maxed, who were also the two main sponsors of the event. As soon as the team arrived on Friday evening, ahead the weekend ring road closure to gain access to the team’s city centre setup location, it was clear the public interest in the race trucks was significant. So much so it is reported that over the two days 210,000 visitors attended the event. On Saturday morning under clear blue skies the visitors soon started to flock to the event, it was clear they were not disappointed to see the skeptical of the Team Oliver Racing paddock set up, with the teams two race trucks parked with a GT Radial Fun Cup car either side and the very impressive super-charged BMW M3 of French drifting ace Benjamin Boubles parked in the centre. During the two-day event all the drivers were kept busy taking part in several sprint races and demonstrations, with the trucks taking a number lucky competition winners along for a high-speed passenger ride. The sprint races were very different from the norm that Team Oliver Racing are accustom too, with the racing carried out as a timed sprint along a large section of the Coventry city ring road. All the vehicles started the sprint from a standing start, then going through underpasses and under bridges, over flyovers and through several temporary chicanes, (to spice things up even more)! The lap turnaround was done by going down an off-slip, around a roundabout and return up the on-slip and back along the opposite carriageway to the finish line. With four race trucks in attendance this gave the visitors a great taste of close up, high-speed, heavy weight race truck action. Over the weekend Stuart Oliver drove his VOLVO VNL race truck and his son Michael drove the SCANIA, Martin Gibson the teams SCANIA driver from last year, was also kept fully occupied over weekend along with colleague Ellis Hadley they drove the two GT Radial Fun Cup cars, as a bonus they picked up a second place trophy in the performance car timed sprint race. As well as the sprint circuit activity, the event hosted a drift action arena and a vast amount of other motor and motor sport activities along with a large amount of static display and demonstration vehicles and motorcycles of all types and ages, all parked among plenty of food and beverage outlets and family entertainment, such as Fun Fair Rides, the Wall of Death, live music stages plus lots more. Stuart and his team were delighted and privileged to be invited to be part of 2019 Coventry MotoFest and are already looking forward to next year.
